How can I help the campaign for Phuntsok?

Over the years many letters have been written on behalf of political prisoners. Some sources state that although they may not be replied to they are counted and the number of letters received is what raises a prisoners profile.

We are trying something different to test this thesis.

Having chosen a prisoner that is NOT high profile quite deliberately but who is being held for unspecified charges of 'Suspicion' - we want to write clear, specific letters asking what he has done - whether his appeal is being granted and to ask for legal representation for Phuntsok.

We ask that somehow you find a Chinese friend (Mandarin speaking) who will translate these letters for you. This is not as hard as it may seem as most cities in the UK have a Chinese Community. (They will need to be from 'Mainland' China as the letters will need to be in 'short form' written Chinese - not 'long form' as written in Hong Kong or Taiwan.) If you would like to help but this is impossible for you - then send us the letters in English and we will have them translated. But please see if you can do this yourself as we only have one translator here! And frienship with your Chinese friend will bear many fruits apart from this...
