"I knew nothing about Tibet until, when I was 17, I read ‘Freedom in Exile.’ I became very interested in supporting Tibetans and in my gap year I went to Nepal and visited the Tibetan Refugee Centre.

When I got to Bristol University I joined the Coalition for Tibet Society and became president in January 2002. We follow the Dalai Lama’s policy of not asking for independence but for genuine autonomy and respect for human rights. In our last event Ganden Tahshi, (who was in prison for 12 years in Tibet) came to talk to us about
his experience, most were in tears by the end of it. This year we are going to India to visit some of the projects we have helped to set up in the Tibetan Communities.

Tibet has now become a part of my life. I often look back and think; 'How did it happen? Only four years ago I knew nothing about it.' It was basically a couple of books
that got me started and that’s why I believe in spreading awareness about Tibet by using The Dalai Lama’s autobiography. I truly believe that we can make a difference."

We have found that a substantial number of people have been inspired to
become involved with helping Tibet because of reading ‘Freedom in Exile.’

If you would like to take an action that is simple and effective just buy one copy of this book and give it to the most influential person you know as a gift. (Or, I think 'For Tibet, With Love' is good too and more readable! (Isabel Kelly)

We would like to make sure that EVERYONE knows what has been done in Tibet.
